Italy 2012

This is my photo journal of our family vacation to Italy. Our group included my mother Flora, my brother Mike, Mike's two children Anthony and Brittany, Flora's cousin Mary and her partner Virg, and me (Jaime).

Cercemaggiore: June 28 - July 3

We returned to Cercemaggiore Italy, in the region of Molise, province of Campobasso, where our ancestors immigrated from. This was the first visit to Cercemaggiore for Brittany, Virg and Mary. The journey for Jaime and Brittany began with a delay, so they didn't meet their companions in Rome as originally planned. From the Rome airport, they made the journey to Rome's Termini train station, had a quick lunch of pasta alla carbonara at Osteria da Luciano, then proceeded to Campobasso where they caught a taxi to Cercemaggiore. Our whole group stayed at the La Dimora d'Isabella, a "single-B" B&B with a marvelous outside deck and spectacular views of the valley. Some of the Maselli's, who live close by, came to greet us. While in Cercemaggiore, we shared stories and photos of our ancestors with some distantly related locals at bar Jack's, visited the nearby remains of the ancient Saepinium, and explored some vacant property. And of course, we took part in the 600th celebration of La Madonna della Libera. The festival is held at the Santuario Santa Maria della Libera. We enjoyed a homemade meal, typical of the region, at the home of our friend Father Carducci.
